Currently, the primary technological obstacles in oil refining pertain to the extensive modernization of refining plants, a task that all oil companies in Kazakhstan are currently facing. With the support of a national initiative, West Gas Energy TOO is establishing new facilities for catalyst production, advancing groundbreaking technologies, and enhancing safety measures in order to produce high-quality, eco-friendly gasoline.
Refining
The Kazakhstan-based Company operated a portfolio of 10 prominent oil refineries strategically positioned throughout the country, along with three petrochemical and four gas processing plants. Additionally, the Company also operated two catalyst production facilities. Collectively, the major oil refineries in Kazakhstan had a combined annual capacity of 118.3 million metric tons of oil.
Developing New Kinds of Catalysts
Catalysts are necessary in all secondary refining processes, and West Gas Energy TOO is the sole oil company in the CIS region that has its own production facilities for catalytic-cracking catalysts. Their production capacity is 3,000 tonnes per year, which is sufficient to meet the demands of their own refineries. However, most other oil refining facilities in Kazakhstan rely on imported catalysts, particularly for hydro-processing (hydrocracking and hydrotreating), which are almost entirely imported.
